The
All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) is committed to
bring a better quality of life into the lives of people with communication
disorders. AIISH is the only institute in the whole of South Asia,
which brings together the activities of research, education, public
education, training and clinical services in speech and hearing
on a single platform.
The Government of India with the objective of imparting education
in the field of speech and hearing established the Institute in
1966. Today, AIISH has not only grown to become the Countrys premier
institute in its field, but has also branched itself into a multi-disciplinary
organization spanning a host of activities in speech and hearing.
AIISH is located on a sprawling 32 acres of land at Manasagangothri,
the postgraduate campus of the University of Mysore.
AIISH is affiliated to the University of Mysore and offers education
programmes leading to B.Sc. M.Sc. and Ph. D in Speech and Hearing.
In addition to these programmes, it offers public education programmes
and extension services, which form a major component of its service
delivery system. It also offers various training programmes for
Speech Pathologists, Audiologists, allied professionals like doctors,
teachers, B.Ed. students and parents of the speech and hearing handicapped.
AIISHs Clinical Services Division provides clinical services to
people with various types of communication disorders. The Research
Wing of AIISH implements research and development projects related
to speech and hearing.
AIISH is wholly financed by the Government of India and functions
as an autonomous organization under the direction of the Executive
Council with the Hon'ble Union minister of Health and family welfare
as chairman and the Hon'ble minister of Health and family welfare,
Government of Karnataka as the Vice Chairman.
