ACTIVITIES

  1. Training
    • B.S.Ed. (Hearing impairment)
    • Short-term training courses – educating the educators on management of children with hearing impairment
    • Refresher courses
  2. Services
    • Suggestions regarding assessment required for educational placement for children with hearing impairment
    • Decision regarding appropriate educational placement for children with hearing impairment
    • Determining levels of support required by children with hearing impairment
    • Appropriate referrals for support services like speech, language training for children with hearing impairment
    • Counselling of school authorities and teachers
    • Suggestions for informal learning activities during pre-primary and primary levels
    • Guidelines for curriculum adaptation for children with hearing impairment
    • School survey to identify communication disorders based on signs and symptoms
    • Modification of teaching techniques for children with hearing impairment in schools

    Curricular support services are offered to school going children with hearing impairment from the 1st of April 2006. Support services in subject areas of Maths, Science and Social Science are being offered currently for children with a hearing impairment studying in primary school.

  3. Research
    • Projects – ongoing
      • Analysis of difficulties experienced by children with hearing impairment while doing mathematics – funded by AIISH
      • Anthological study of traditional games and play activities useful in training young children with disabilities – funded by AIISH
